"Mistakes Doctors Make in Treating ARTHRITIS"
by Julian Whitaker, M.D.
Director of Whitaker Wellness Institute Medical Clinic

"If you have arthritis, your physician has most likely prescribed nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Motrin (ibuprofen), Ansaid, Clinoril, Vicondin and Neproxen.

Initially, these drugs knock out your pain, and this makes them seem like the ultimate solution.

Well, let me tell you friend, they're anything but. Their side effects are frightful, including gastrointestinal bleeding and kidney and liver damage.

About 107,000 people are hospitalized each year for gastrointestinal complications resulting from use of NSAIDs. Each year, 16,500 of them die.

And if your stomach and liver survive prolonged use of NSAIDs, your joints may not. Used long term, these drugs can destroy your cartilage, making your arthritis and pain much worse.

Example: In one study, Norwegian physicians examined the X-rays of 294 arthritic hips. They found that the hip joints of patients taking NSAIDs had significantly greater damage than those not taking the drug.

Are the New COX-2 Drugs Any Better?

With great fanfare, a new category of NSAID was recently introduced, called COX-2 inhibitors. The drug Celebrex was the first to be approved, and others are in the pipeline.

In terms of pain relief, they work no better than other over-the-counter pain relievers. But they're supposed to be safer for you, by cutting ddown on the serious risks of NSAIDs.

I'm not so sure, and I caution you to stay away from these new drugs until we have more experience with them.

New research from the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center raises the red flag that these new drugs may elevate your risk of heart attack, stroke and other adverse "cardiovascular events." Please, stay away from them until we gain more experience with them. You don't want to risk trading your arthritis pain for a massive stroke or fatal heart attack.

Steroids Are Also A Big Mistake

Doctors also routinely prescribe steroids such as prednisone. While these steroids are very powerful for reducing inflammation, they also have terrible long-term side effects. They can actually bring on heart disease, diabetes, eye damage and severe osteoporosis, as well as undesirable facial and body changes.

And PLEASE, Beware of Tylenol!

As for acetaminophen pain relievers, such as Tylenol, you must also be very careful.

As acetaminophen breaks down in your body, about 5% of it is metabolized into a potentially deadly toxin. This toxin is normally neutralized in your liver. However, when taken in too high a dose, the toxin overwhelms and damages your liver. In fact, acetaminophen overdose is the leading cause of hospitalization for acute liver failure.

Overdoses are far more common than you'd ever imagine. For example, if your arthritis pain is severe on a given day, you might be tempted to take an extra dose or two. The recommended dose is 4 grams a day. Yet just 10 to 15 grams would be a life-threatening dose to most people! Notice I didn't say could be life-threatening, but would be life-threatening.

And if you mix Tylenol with alcohol, you are begging for trouble. For example, Mary Rose Palmer was a moderate drinker who took Tylenol on a regular basis for back pain. She died in 1993 of acute liver failure from Tylenol poisoning. Thirty-seven-year old Antonio Benedi had wine with dinner one evening, then took ten Exra-Strenght Tylenol tablets over the next four days. He also had acute liver failure but was saved by a liver transplant.

Both cases went to trial, and Tylenol manufacturer Johnson & Johnson paid out millions of dollars. If you must drink and you have acetaminophen in your house, it's like storing matches and gasoline next to your heater.

Natural Pain Relievers Are Far Superior

So now that you know the most common mistakes doctors and patients make in treating arthritis, what are the right ways?

Well, let me start by assuring you that arthritis is now one of the easiest conditions to treat IF you are familiar with natural remedies.

As explained in the best-selling book, The Arthritis Cure, by prominent M.D., Dr. Jason Theodosakis:

"An arthritis cure has been discovered, and it's as simple as taking two inexpensive, over-the-counter nutritional supplements .... Four decades of medical research from around the world has shown that two nutritional supplements can halt, reverse and even cure osteoarthritis [the wear-and-tear arthritis that afflicts most sufferers]."

These two nutrients, which I'll name in a moment, are part and parcel of a complete, all-natural, 100% safe arthritis reversal program. And it's working like a charm!

At the front line of defense are two nutritional supplements that are completely safe and stimulate healing with new cartilage growth to cover the surfaces of your bones.

One is called glucosamine sulfate. The other is chondroitin sulfate.

You've probably already heard of these wonder nutrients, and the good news is all true. They've been proven to reverse arthritis naturally. Yes, reverse it, and without any harmful side effects!

These two safe supplements give your connective tissue the raw material it needs to rebuild itself. And they're completely safe. Indeed, you may be consuming them already in some of the foods you eat. But you're not getting enough to jump-start your cartilage into rebuilding itself. That's why you need some supplementation.

I'm an M.D., and I wouldn't advise you to take anything I don't believe is completely safe. The two compounds are natural ingredients and have been studied for decades in Europe.

Best of all, they work -- better than anything the medical world has ever seen for ridding damaged joints of pain and restoring function.

We've found that glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin are the two cornerstones of arthritis reversal and pain relief."
